Hey, Soup Sister: Your Delicious De Pere Soup Spot

Owner Joell Hill was just like the rest of us, looking for change.  When she moved from Oklahoma to Green Bay, it was the perfect time to make a move in her career too.   Since food was always her passion and cooking was her form of stress relief, it was an easy decision to jump right into something new.

Hey, Soup Sister was born in February of 2020.  With Joell’s sister and brother-in-law as the owners of the building her restaurant currently resides in, it seemed like it would be a great fit for their fitness business by having her healthy homecooked foods just next door.  Since she’d toyed around with making soups for years, she decided to make it into a full-fledged business.

When her grandma and daughter moved here too, it turned into a wonderful family business. Inspired by the song “Hey, Soul Sister” by Train, which came on while they were listening to music and discussing potential names for the restaurant, Joell thought this was the perfect name for her custom soup café.

Now, Hey, Soup Sister is delighting everyone in the area with fresh-made soups daily. Three different soups are available each day, all listed on the Facebook page for you to see (Hey, Soup Sister | Facebook).  Every soup base Joell crafts is gluten-free.  And they also make vegetarian and at least one vegan option available too.

The concept is simple yet satisfying.  You choose a base and then pick from a massive list of add-ins to customize your bowl of soup.  Add as much or as little as you’d like to your soup with a roster of shredded chicken, garlic sausage, rice, black beans, tomatoes, green onions, cheeses, sour cream, garlic pepper sauce, tortilla strips, bacon bits, and more. Every soup bowl comes with a gluten-free piece of Brazilian cheese bread, perfect for dunking in to sop up every last drop of those delicious soups.

While there is limited seating for dine-in, takeout is always available at Hey, Soup Sister. Plus, at the end of each day, the soup bases are frozen into 16-ounce containers that you can buy for only $5 each.  That means there are usually around 30 or so different varieties of frozen soup to choose that you can enjoy as-is or throw in your favorite additions while at home.

If you’d prefer cold soup, Joell has you covered there too.  There are two options of cold soups that rotate weekly.  In total, Hey, Soup Sister creates about 85 different soups throughout the year.  Because all Joell’s soups consider dietary needs for everyone, they have a huge following.  People come from Appleton and Marinette to get their soup fix at Hey, Soup Sister.

You should come too!  Hey, Soup Sister is open Mondays through Fridays from 11am to 3pm and is closed on the weekend for now.  If you have questions about the soups, be sure to email them at joell@heysoupsister.com or call 920-241-3930.  And visit their website, www.heysoupsister.com, for more information.
